There are many great governments, The U.S, Canada and the countries of the European Union. But what’s the difference between the governments of today and the governments of ancient Egypt? Well the form of today’s governments is mostly democracy and the form of government for the ancient Egyptians were theocracy.
In ancient Egyptian government the highest and most power person was the pharaoh. Not only did the Pharaoh rule the all mighty land of Egypt but also the religion. The pharaoh also got the really fancy tile of Lord of the two lands. But aside from being a king the pharaoh had a lot of work to do. He made the laws, collected taxes and did many great things for the people of Egypt. Not only was he pharaoh but he was also the religious leader, High priest of every temple, and he also represented the gods of the earth. The priest was expected to lead in people in many things, like wars and every day life. In wars he kept peace to Egypt by making other leaders not attack Egypt, but in outside of Egypt. One great example is Pharaoh Ramses ll when he invaded Nubia and conquered the people.
The pharaoh has a lot of responsibilities but he can not do it all by himself. There many jobs that help the government and the pharaoh. There are official who have power, but lower power than the pharaoh and the queen. The second highest official was the vizier, which was sort of like a prime minister. All the other officials reported to the vizier. He had to follow the three rules, 1(act by the law 2) Judge fairly 3) Not act willing head strong. Another branch of their government were normaks. The normaks were local governors who ruled a land called a Nome who were under the viziers. The job a normark is usually passed down father to son but sometimes a pharaoh can appoint one. There are also the scribes and the priest, and the job of a mayor. Some of the other jobs for the government are to maintain a military and law enforcement.
In conclusion, the government of ancient Egypt and the government of the U.S are different but they do have some similarities, for example both government has a set of laws and has jobs for everyone to do. There were police, judges, mayors and taxes. The Egyptians had a good government and had good things going for them.
